Error 1 - you do not wash the new fabric before you start working with it
Natural fabric can be from plant (cotton, flax, etc.) or animal materials (wool, silk, cashmere). They all tend to sit down after washing. The photo below shows an example with cotton, which has significantly sat down after washing, and this significantly influenced the further work with the cloth.
Error 2 - after purchase you do not straighten the shape of the fabric
To understand how to straighten the fabric for further work, you need to know two basic sewing terms - weft and warp. The weft is the threads that are across, and the base is along. If you pull the fabric along, it will not stretch, and vice versa. In order for the fabric to be suitable for work, you need to cut it along the ducks, stretch the fabric and cut it.
Inaccurately cut off the edge, which could make the saleswoman in the store, can ruin all further work. Sometimes you have to donate at least 1/4 of the fabric to straighten the material.
Error 3 - when cutting, you do not position the fabric according to the direction of the thread thread
The share thread always goes along the hem. Before working with templates, you should arrange the fabric in the same way as in the master class in which you work, since the arrows in it indicate the direction of the fractional thread. Otherwise, if you mis-locate and then cut the fabric, the final product will not succeed - it will hang out or stretch.Usually, when cutting the pattern, they are laid along a common thread (but there are exceptions).
Error 4 - you buy too little fabric of the right color.
This error is easy to avoid, simply by purchasing more fabric than indicated in the chosen master class.
Error 5 - you are using the wrong fabric
Thin silk fabric will turn your shirt into a shapeless one. However, it is well suited as a lining for a jacket, jacket and other clothing. Woven and knitted fabrics also behave in a completely different way. Examine the properties of fabrics, consult with the saleswoman in the store before buying fabric.
