Best Russian films - 2017
This year there were several Russian films that are worth seeing not only to support the “domestic producer”. This is a smart, funny, deep, entertaining movie that convinces viewers that our cinema is alive and developing.
Director: Cantemir Balagov
Cast: Daria Zhovner, Olga Dragunova, Artem Tsypin, Veniamin Katz
The prize winner at the Cannes Film Festival (Fipressi prize), the film by Kantemir Balagov, a student of Alexander Sokurov from Kabardino-Balkaria, is a nostalgic and shrill story about the life of the Jewish community in the North Caucasus in the world that was formed after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The guy David marries the beautiful Lee, but on the day of the engagement they are stolen by local gangsters, demanding an incredible amount of ransom. The situation can be solved if the sister of David, an independent Ilana, profitable to marry. But she is not going to do this, because she meets with a Kabardian from a nearby gas station. The traditions of the Jewish family strangle Ilana, who does not understand why she needs to sacrifice herself.
Director: Boris Khlebnikov
Cast: Alexander Yatsenko, Irina Gorbacheva
Kate sent a text message to Oleg: "We need a divorce." After that, they parted: she stayed in the tiny room, he moved to the kitchen. How do two people who decide to leave will get along in such a scanty territory? At first, the script (the scriptwriters — Khlebnikov and Natalya Meshchaninova) wrote only about this, and it was supposed to be a funny story. But she went out of control, grew and turned from a comedy almost into drama, where the hero was stuck in his own nineteen years, and the heroine turned out to be slightly more mature. Medical subjects (Katya and Oleg - doctors) suggested the name of the film in which two hearts tap different rhythms.
Director: Rezo Gigineishvili
Cast: Irakli Kvirikadze, Tinatin Dalakishvili, Giga Datiashvili, Giorgi Grdzelidze, George Tabidze
A few years before the collapse of the Soviet Union, intelligent Georgian young men and women, representatives of golden youth, made an attempt to hijack a plane and fly to Turkey. The wedding of the very young lovers, Anna and Nika, served as a cover for this dangerous event. The story, developing in the movie, ended tragically, as the real episode, which served as the basis for the film.
At the "Kinotavr" "Hostages" received a prize for directing. Rezo Gigineishvili surprised many with his film, which has nothing to do with the previously shot “Heat” and “Love with an Accent”.
Director: Andrey Zvyagintsev
Cast: Mariana Spivak, Alexey Rozin, Matvey Novikov, Marina Vasilyeva, Andris Keysh, Alexey Fateev, Sergey Borisov
The film is the most famous in the West, the modern Russian director received a jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the upcoming Oscar.
The story of divorcing spouses whose son turned out to be superfluous, and then disappeared, is told ruthlessly truthfully, without excuses and unnecessary hopes. Someone perceives "Dislike" as an encyclopedia of the most disgusting characters from our everyday life, and someone understands that this is his own chance: to act differently than the characters in the film.
"Time of the first"
Director: Dmitry Kiselev
Cast: Yevgeny Mironov, Konstantin Khabensky, Vladimir Ilyin, Alexandra Ursulyak, Elena Panova
During the space race of the 60s is planned the most important flight, during which a person must go into open space. Two Soviet pilots, Pavel Belyaev (Khabensky) and Alexey Leonov (Evgeny Mironov), during the most important flight in life, turn out to be not only alone with the cosmos, but also alone with the taiga, where they almost froze to death. Not only figures of astronauts, played by some of the best artists of our time, are convex here, but also designer Sergey Korolev performed by Vladimir Ilyin. Despite all the advantages of the film, the thought does not leave: how it would have turned out, if it was shot by Yury Bykov, who originally directed the film.
Director: Alexey Uchitel
Cast: Michalina Olshanska, Lars Eidinger, Louise Wolfram, Danila Kozlovsky, Ingeborg Dapkunayte, Sergey Garmash, Yevgeny Mironov, Galina Tyunina
The film about the novel by Nicholas II and the ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya received a lot of publicity even before the premiere. Perhaps many will be surprised if they do not see any slander in the cinema, but only the romantic story of the not too long love of the heir to the Russian throne, Nikolai Romanov, and sensual polka ballerina.
